Consensus
The image at right represents a typical consensus. People struggle to find the overlap in their fixed positions. Rich, vibrant perspectives are abridged through compromise.

Individual Perspective
Individual perspectives are rich in complexity. Each of us builds our understanding from previously understood concepts into a network of meaning. The image at right reflects this in a simple fashion.

Synthesized Consensus
The image at right reflects how Synanim brings individual perspectives together to discover new meaning. The result is consensus, but at a higher level of understanding. We call this process "creative synthesis."
Synanim synthesizes consensus through dialogue. At each step of the Synanim writing process, individuals offer their ideas and then learn from those of their group. This learning shapes the construction of each individual's subsequent statements. Done repeatedly, this process becomes an iterative climb up a ladder of increased insight and creativity. All members of the group converge toward a conceptualization built from the many ideas they brought to the encounter.
As a result, Synanim discovers unity by building a new position shared by all and to which all have grown.
